A new database system for aggregating worldwide adventure tours so that travel agents and consumers can more readily find and book them has catapulted Rosslands start-up company, Adventure Engine, into the fourth and final round of the popular New Ventures BC Competition.

Kelly Acheson and Amber Hayes, both of Rossland, BC started their company in 2004 and now host over 100 adventure and educational tour suppliers on their database, representing more than 2000 different trips and more than $200 billion worth of seat inventory. With travel as the worlds leading product sold online and experiential / adventure travel as one of the fastest growing travel sectors, this companies technology is on target to serve the world market.

"We're building the bridge to make it easier for consumers to find these incredible trips," says Acheson. "Now people can search and book them on our Adventure Engine database, on a growing number of other travel websites and soon, on hundreds of thousands of travel agents' own booking systems.""Our company mandate is to serve all sizes of tourism operations so we have small single season operators in the system being distributed and sold along side large international providers, " notes Amber. "It makes us happy to know we are providing these types of opportunities to tour operators with a new technology that is powerful yet accessible."

Both entrepreneurs entered the New Ventures BC competition in April as their company is developing proprietary innovative reservation and distribution technology. The technology business idea competition is one of the largest in North America, offering $135,000 in cash and prizes, including the BC Hydro $60,000 First Prize package, the Enbridge $38,000 second prize and a $20,000 BC Hydro Sustainabilty Prize.

Kelly Acheson will now make a live presentation before a panel of contest judges with winners announced in Vancouver September 26 at a gala reception.
